Yule River

£2,750

This painting captures one of my elderly mothers’ fond memories of growing up in the Pilbara, on her traditional country.
When she was around 10 years old, her parents were working on Mundabullangana Station (Munda) fencing. Every Saturday, the station owner, Mrs Lucas would come and collect all the Aboriginal kids in her car and take them down to Yule River. She would leave them at the river for the day to swim, play and collect witchety grubs for her. It was an outing that they would all look forward to every week. At the end of the day, Mrs Lucas would return to take them back to the station. They would then cook the witchety grubs and share them with Mrs Lucas.
