Pansy Hicks is a Ngarluma Elder, one of the two remaining traditional owners of the Ngarluma land, the land of the Saltwater people.

She has been painting for a long time. She paints about Munni-Munni Hill, that’s over Cheeditha way. It’s got some carvings there too… but that’s a man’s site… she can’t say about that. That hill looks like a zebra. That’s why we call it Munni-Munni Hill. She also paints ‘Stepping Stones – When The World Was Soft’. That’s about when our ancestors were here, a long time ago. Pansy likes painting, you know when you’re feeling down or got worries… then painting will help you.

Independent Artists

Pansy Hicks is an independent artist – not formally aligned with a specific art centre, and whose stories, personal histories and talents are shared through creative illustration on canvas. Independent artists bring a diverse array of styles, techniques and cultural expressions to the exhibition.
