Telisha Samson is a Ngarluma woman, and she lives in Roebourne town. Most of her family are artists – her nanna Violet has taught her aunties and uncles, and she teaches her grandchildren too.
The story she paints a lot is the two snakes crossing the sky. They get taught the stories of their ancestors and they usually get trusted to paint one story that is entrusted to them; Telisha’s story is the story of the snakes. But she also paints the landscape around Roebourne and the mining that happens on our lands.
Independent Artists
Telisha Samson is an independent artist – not formally aligned with a specific art centre, and whose stories, personal histories and talents are shared through creative illustration on canvas. Independent artists bring a diverse array of styles, techniques and cultural expressions to the exhibition.
